The Department of Infrastructure and Rural Development, which belongs
to the School of Rural and Surveying Engineering has a long experience
in research related to Water Resources Management projects. More
precisely its Laboratory of Reclamation Works and Water Resources
Management has participated in more than thirty (30) research projects
related to various aspects of Water Resources Management.
The Laboratory has led research teams
or participated in Research Institution Networks related to water shortage,
drought and desertification. For example the Laboratory was the coordinator
of “Effects
of drought on vegetation and soil degradation in Mediterranean countries”
(contract EC-EPOCH CT90-0028). The researchers of the Laboratory
have cooperated with many other European and Greek projects (STEP:
European Soil Erosion Model, SAST – MONITOR: Fresh water demand
and use in Europe, Water Resources Management of Crete, INTERREG II:
Water Resources Management of Dodekanese etc.).
The Laboratory is also active in organising congresses, seminars
and workshops.
